This, after Avira successfully updated just seconds before this. seeks x VDF (which will not see the file) or n VDF (which sees the file, but does not install it). I'm a Win XP Pro SP3 user and Avira Free Antivirus won't update automatically or manually.
This was to have been some sort of immediate follow-up update. I tried the Fusebundle ("Manual Update Tool") and while that works it's highly undesirable to download over 200 MB daily just to update. Restarted the computer, and manually removed all leftover files and registry settings associated with Avira that I could find. Installed a fresh copy of Avira Free Antivirus, and it still fails to update.
I don't use a proxy and I'm on Win 7 Pro -- so are some other people who have reported this issue.
The workaround that has worked for me is to go into Control Panel-Programs and Features (on XP it was called Add/Remove Programs, same thing).
If you're using Windows, then you should proceed as follows: - Download the Avira Fusebundle Generator: Decompress the file: avira_fusebundlegen-win32- Open the folder: avira_fusebundlegen-win32-en - Double-click on - Wait for the Fusebundle archive to be created - a new folder "install" will be created, this is where vdf_can be located - Open Avira Manual update and add the new VDF update file (vdf_fusebundle.zip) This will trigger a forced update in the product which replaces all existing files, no matter if they are newer than those in the fusebundle archive. I was just contemplating doing the complete uninstall and installing a fresh, most recent setup from Avira, but I've been saved from that trouble.
